Brian was the Club Chairman from its inception.  He was enthusiastic about everything he did, from his august academic work to mountaineering, climbing, orienteering and much more.  He was a great encouragement to very many club members and we all remember his good humour and especially his “long and boring speech” at every dinner.  Kate wrote a speech for Brian’s funeral about his love of mountaineering.  You can read it here.
